I’ve hosted Christmas Day for eight out of the past nine years – last year was the first I didn’t host and it felt very strange not to be thinking about and planning my Christmas table throughout December! I’m always drawn to natural materials and my table from 2018 was my favourite so far and I’ll show you next what you’ll need to recreate something similar.
I hate all the plastic waste in crackers that gets thrown away, so my first aim was to make my own and fill with meaningful gifts for our guests. There are tons of templates on Pinterest to choose from and I decided to go with a box shape design, so that it would sit flat on the place setting. I doubled up their purpose and wrote calligraphy names on the crackers to use as a name tag too. I used kraft card with wired leaf twine and filled with paper hats, hand printed jokes, after dinner mints, miniature alcohol bottles, nail varnishes and hand creams. I’ve listed the items you’ll need below.
For the table setting itself, I used a white tablecloth without placemats as I wanted to keep it from looking too cluttered (my dining table is not very big). I also used matching white napkins with natural horn napkin rings. I layered a hessian runner and topped with foraged greenery, eucalyptus and pine cones and created a centrepiece with wood slices, pillar and taper candles and some faux mini antlers. I also added some battery operated mini wired led string lights to add a bit of extra sparkle…it is Christmas after all!
